Thoughts: Note to self: If/when I should acquire a Super Hubby 2000 and spawn one or two brainy lil’ rugrats, I must teach them to be self-sufficient in the mornings ASAP, preferably around 6 months, LOL. I keep reading posts from other women trying to do BFL about time issues in the morning caused by kiddies and hubbies needing to be prepped for the day and sent out the door.
Um…What the hell?
One assumes that the husbands are grown ups for the sake of legality. They can blooming well fix their own breakfasts and get groomed and dressed without help! Give the gift of cooking lessons to Mr. Man for his birthday one year if he was a cheap model and didn’t come to you pre-loaded with the proper utility software. It’s the gift that keeps on giving (free time to you).
As for the kids…I can understand the need for some handholding when they are very young, but once they reach the age of reason–let’s say 7 or so–it’s time to teach them the proper way to pour milk into a bowl of cereal, the intricacies of toaster and microwave operation, and the importance of having their school gear together before they go to bed.
I remember getting ready for school–breakfast, dressing, and riding my bike to school with my little sister in tow–without much help at all from Mom or Dad when I was in second grade. My sister and I both took pride in learning how to do things for ourselves instead of relying on Mommy or Daddy for everything. Neither of us liked being treated like babies.
We got our family time during dinner when our parents did actually prepare the food and sit down with us to find out how our days went.
Are things very different in Western households and families?
