Lost in Time

I woke up this morning and genuinely didn’t know what day it was.

It’s been building up for a while since our work crunch has been on since fall, but this was literally the first day where I had absolutely no concept of named days as markers for time in the sense of “Wednesday! I’m halfway through the work week!” or “Friday! The weekend is almost here!”

When Saturday and Sunday become just another pair of work days, you lose the little psychological bookmarks in time that make you pop out of bed for school or work on weekdays, and relax for an extra hour or two on weekends. Most people wake up on a Tuesday(?) morning and feel a sense of urgency and purpose because they need to get things done before heading to work. I woke up and perceived that Tuesdays are no different than any other morning of the week where I wake up, put on my gym clothes and shoes, work out, shower, make breakfast, eat, pack up my big bag of prepared meals for the day, and go to work.

It didn’t help that I did a marathon cooking session last night that reset my internal clock to Saturday since I normally cook on the weekend.

Is it normal to not remember where an entire month went? I’m asking because I have no idea what happened to April.

I need a vacation.

5/2/05 P&P Challenge Report (Details)

Consecutive Perfect Days = 2
Total Perfect Days = 2/62

The Progress and Perfection challenge is doing its job wonderfully. I have had two or three occasions when I’ve been tempted to nibble on a raisin or two outside of my scheduled meals, but knowing that I’m on this challenge has kept me in check. This is *much* more motivating and effective for me than the EAS challenge has ever been.

The prize money has never been real to me, but keeping my written word (in the form of my posted guidelines) to Kyra and the other people following the P&P challenge hits me where I really live–my pride and honor. I stuck out 4 years in the military (even though I really didn’t want to go in but was so clueless about the whole MEPS thing that I had signed a contract before I realized what was happening, LOL) just because I had raised my hand and swore I would.

This challenge is sort of the same thing. It makes me strong and keeps me honest because I have signed up for 62 days of perfection, not 12 weeks of “I’ll muddle along to the best of my ability and hope for a tiny increment of improvement because I don’t want to work that hard or give up anything I really like“, which is what “Progress, not perfection” really means at this point in my fitness journey. I’ve been doing this fitness stuff for almost a year now. I can’t use the “I’m a newbie” line anymore to excuse a piece of chocolate here or a missed workout there. I know what I need to do, and I’m going to do it…perfectly…for the next 60 days, because in the end, it’s as easy as keeping my word to myself and following my own rules.
