LL C2W2D1: I Love Karaoke

It’s been weeks since I last got to jump up to the mic on a karaoke stage, but I finally got out this weekend. I met up with fellow karaoke junkie Chris and Chris’s girlfriend at a karaoke bar called Big Daddy’s near the old naval training center in Orlando Saturday night while my Chris went to watch Red Eye with some of his buddies. Karaoke Chris and I immediately got things going with Billy Joel’s “Still Rock and Roll To Me” and Evanescence’s “My Immortal,” respectively. Ed brought his girlfriend Erin over to our table a little bit afterwards and jumped into the singing rotation with Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl.”

I was kind of worried that I would be too dehydrated to perform well since I’d eaten a plate of spaghetti (turkey with a huge pile of veggies and a proper portion of pasta) and half a bag of light butter popcorn about half an hour before leaving for the bar, but my vocal cords decided to cooperate with me the entire night.

The sound system was fantastic and the host did a great job of keeping the singers in the proper order. I was up for three more songs that night before I left, and am relieved to report that all of them went well, even the two last ones which I had never tried before in public.

Maggie’s Saturday Song List

  1. My Immortal Evanescence
  2. Hit Me With Your Best Shot Pat Benatar
  3. When You Love A Woman Journey
  4. Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone) Glass Tiger

I also picked out some other songs from the book that I am determined to learn for future outings: Missionary Man and Would I Lie To You? by the Eurythmics, Kiss Them For Me by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Separate Ways by Journey.

I still haven’t worked up the guts to do Heart’s Barracuda. I have never needed the buzz of alcohol in my system to go up and sing, but in the case of Barracuda, I might have to make an exception.

Between karaoke, house hunting, and mortgage shopping this weekend, no workouts got done, but my diet was pretty clean. I didn’t have a real splurge meal this week, dang it, unless you count the obscene quantity of light popcorn and raisins I snacked on while surfing the web for decent mortgage rates.

I’m switching my workouts this week to review Dave Greenwalt’s Muscle Audio Professor program, a series of audio coaching tracks that go along with his Leanness Lifestyle “Full Body Blitz” workout. The list of exercises is the same for all 12 workouts in the series, but the tempo and reps change to keep you challenged. The audio track follows along with the entire workout to keep your reps at the right pace and to help you focus on what you are supposed to be doing instead of, oh, admiring yourself in the mirror. It will certainly be a unique way to get my lifting done.
