Spared From Superbore Sunday

For the first time in three years, I did not have to partake in the egregious waste of my precious weekend hours known as Superbowl Sunday.

I’m sure millions of Americans, including many readers of this blog, would disagree, but I just don’t get the appeal of football. I never bothered to attend a single football game in high school or college (not even when Rice played Texas and actually won), and I have studiously avoided watching any games on television for all 31 years of my life.

The only reason I’ve even BEEN to a Superbowl party before is because, each time, I was dating someone who wanted to go.

Consider:
1) I don’t drink beer or any other type of alcohol, and I don’t like soft drinks either.
2) I am usually cutting this time of year, so I also can’t have too much of the usual Superbowl party junk.
3) Football makes me go into a coma from boredom.

It is nice to catch up with friends before the boring stuff starts up, but honestly, I am ready to go home after an hour of gossip and salty munchies.

So yesterday after helping Chris paint the master bathroom and sending him off to play cards (Magic the Gathering cards, not that trend poker stuff) until 5 pm, I had a nice, normal Sunday: Laundry, dishes, food prep, gardening, financial fiddling, Animal Crossing, home workout and personal art work.

I was *supposed* to meet up with Chris after 5 to go to a Superbore event at someone’s house, but fate was on my side. Unbeknownst to me, my subconscious had conveniently “forgotten” to plug my cell phone into its charger the night before, and my phone battery was dead, ergo I didn’t receive a reminder call at 5 pm.

By the time I looked up from the computer where I was coloring some pieces in Photoshop, it was past 7:30 pm, and I was spared from having to go after all.

:claphigh:

Would it be too obvious if I pulled this same maneuver again next year?
