Dropped slightly to 140.2 today with a lower body fat reading on the Tanita, too. I will keep the eats clean and under 1600 today and see if I can finally see 139 tomorrow.
The non-stretchy, unforgiving posh jeans are fitting almost comfortably again, too.
I started the day with 30 minutes of YF cardio and told Maya that everything was “no sweat,” even the segment that was one long, calf-burning stretch of double heel jacks, regular jacks, side kicks, and squat jacks. The scientific gamer in me wants to see just how tough the YF cardio workouts can actually get. :jester:
Then I strapped on my dusty old inline skates originally purchased circa 1994 and wobbled outside to rollerblade for the first time in at least 10 years.
The first five minutes were looooooong. I finally got the hang of stabilizing my ankles and gliding forward and spent the next half hour practicing turns, stops, and skating in general. I eventually made it out of the huge driveway I share with 5 other townhomes and meandered down the street and back on the bumpy sidewalk. My cheapo skates worked surprisingly well considering that they spent the past decade in a blue Wal-Mart bag in my various closets, but they were hitting the insides of my ankles a bit too much for comfort. I will stick with them for another week or so to make sure I will still want to continue with this form of cardio, then pick up better rollerblades.
Playing outside sure was a lot easier as a kid, but overall I had fun and wasn’t miserably counting each millisecond of exercise like I do when (yuck!) running.
I have another outdoor walk and TT core A left today. Food is packed in my new pink and black Igloo. I’ll be taking my own eats to the company movie trip to see Spider-man 3 at 4:30.
Speaking of eats, I was recently presented with a box of samples from Dymatize, the makers of my current favorite protein powder, Dymatize Elite Whey. Among these samples were packets of just about all of their Elite protein flavors and four flavors of their new Oats ‘n’ More product. Those of you who have been reading for a while know of my extremely negative opinion of the protein powder + oatmeal combo (”proats” or “proatmeal” for the lazy typist). Proats are, in general, something very much like a congealed blob of lumpy paste that takes all the tasty parts of their ingredients and converts them into something between rotten milk and chemical waste.
:eekb:
So I was a bit wary this morning when I pulled out a packet of the Granola Crunch Oats ‘n’ Whey.
This wonderfood is 265 calories per packet with 29 g carbohydrates, 34 g protein, 2 g fiber, and 2.5 g fat. The top five ingredients are whey protein isolate, whole oats, brown sugar, whole grain wheat, and corn syrup. I’m not so hot on the corn syrup, but the addition of rice and almonds (the next two ingredients) sort of mitigates that.
Anyhow, you add just 1/4 cup of water to this concoction, then nuke on high for 20-30 seconds. I went for 30 seconds, which was a bit too long with my freakishly powerful little Panasonic microwave, because when I came back for my proats, half of the mixture had solidified into a bowl-shaped protein meringue from overcooking. The rest of it looked like putty colored proats, no surprise there. I squished the meringuey bits down and churned it around with the gooey proaty stuff in my bowl a bit to moisten it back up, then took a bite.
Hmm…
Well…
It wasn’t bad!
I mean, I won’t say it compares to Quaker’s miscellaneous sugary flavored oatmeal concoctions (especially the divine fruit and cream flavors), but for a bowl of proatmeal, it was certainly edible. I was amazed that I didn’t detect any of the nausea-inducing “I am COOKED WHEY, taste my cloying WRATH!” flavor that usually comes out when whey protein is mixed with a hot fluid.
Perhaps it would have been even better had I not overcooked it. I will try again tomorrow by adding boiling water to my bowl instead of microwaving the whole thing.
Stay tuned.
