10/8/07 Log: No Turkey Trotting for me!

I already have 3 weeks out of 5 of the Runner’s World 5k race training under my belt since the UCF 2-miler is in 2 weeks. I do not plan to do a November Turkey Trot 5k at this point, but since I will theoretically be in 5k shape after the Oct. 21 race and still plan on running for 30 minutes twice a week as part of my normal cardio, I may do one at the last minute, depending on how fugly the race shirt designs turn out this year. There is one in downtown Orlando by Lake Eola, but it is apparently extremely popular, and I HATE having to jog slowly behind a bunch of slow walkers for the first mile. It completely screws up my time. It’s not that I expect to win anything at these things, but I do sort of like to improve on my personal best if possible, and this just can’t be done when you have a whole herd of race shufflers in front of you.

My three mile outdoor run was rained out yesterday, so I did it this morning on a gym treadmill. I ran 10 minutes steady state at 6-7 mph, then used intervals for the remaining 20 minutes (60 seconds @ 4 mph/60 seconds @ 8-8.5 mph). I think I will take tomorrow’s 25 minute run outdoors though.

Prior to the 3 mile make up session, I got in my upper body/chest workout this morning as well as my planned cardio. The FGX drop sets really got my arms; after drop sets of 10 x 20 lb dbell curls immediately followed by 10 x 15 lb curls, my forearms wouldn’t relax for 10 minutes. Gotta love muscle failure!

I made chicken and eggplant stir fry, grilled chicken in berry sauce, and chocolate peanut butter protein popsicles yesterday. I still need to go grocery shopping for the week, but I had enough fruit and main meals to get me through today. Pork tenderloin and chicken breast are both on uber sale again this week, so I’ll be making more of the Chinese BBQ roast pork (probably in the slow cooker this time) and something new with the chicken once the current batches of chicken run out. I really need more brown rice, veggies, and a new canister of raisins, though, as well as some stuff from the Asian grocery.

Chris did not do his P90X this morning because he had to drive to company headquarters 2 hours away, but I will gently remind him that I have more stars than he does on the fridge door workout calendar tonight. Last week was patchy as well due to his three days away from home, but I was sly last night and told him that his waist was looking noticeably smaller after just 4 weeks on the program.

Oh, official competition pics from the show I attended Saturday are up here if anyone is curious. I think the medium height class had the best physiques. There were a LOT of competitors in the short class, though–figure seems to appeal to the shorties at the gym, hee. The competitors also competed in age-based classes, so you’ll see some of them in more than one group. It was great to see so many women in the over 30s group looking fantastic!

Eats are clean through Meal 3 so far, and M4-M5 are here at the office with me. M6 will be my delicious new chocolate peanut butter protein pops at home. I brought my WW Simply the Best cookbook to work with me today so I can get in some food porn–erm, I mean select some healthy recipes–before I go shopping tonight.
